An osteopathic approach to gastrointestinal symptoms in autism: Visceral osteopathy for children and adults with autism suffering from gastrointestinal dysfunction
Dr Ioná Bramati-Castellarin Ph.D, B.Sc.(Hons) Ost Med D.O, N.D.
Dr Bramati graduated from the British College of Osteopathy in 2001 has been practicing visceral osteopathy at IBCcare for the past 16 years. She is the only known specialist with a doctorate on clinical osteopathy in autistic children suffering from gastrointestinal dysfunction. Dr Bramati was awarded a PhD by the University of Westminster and has recently published her research on the effects of visceral osteopathy in autistic children. Dr Bramati’s research project was approved for collaboration with King’s College Hospital, London and endorsed by the National Autistic Society and sponsored by BCOM via a grant from the British Naturopathic and Osteopathic Association. Dr Bramati is committed to helping improve the quality of life and wellbeing of children on the spectrum using a non-invasive form of therapy – Visceral Osteopathy.
Dr Bramati will be sharing information on autism, visceral osteopathy, practicalities in using osteopathic techniques in patients suffering from ASD and some results on her recent publication – ‘Repeat-measures longitudinal study evaluating behavioural and gastrointestinal symptoms in children with autism before, during and after visceral osteopathic technique (VOT), (Bramati-Castellarin et al., 2016, . J Bodyw Mov Ther, 20, 461-70.).
